Ronald Junior Brazeau trial is suspended

The ultimate outcome of the Brazeau vs Crown trial is eagerly anticipated by a number of Aylmer residents, but it appears residents will need to be patient because Ronald Junior Brazeau (Jun)’s trial is at a standstill.

Brazeau, who is a seeking a stay of proceedings (proceedings dropped), could have his wish granted by Judge Anouk Desaulniers who was unable to come up with a ruling due to contrasting stories.

The issue is not whether Brazeau played a role in Travis Voutour’s death, but rather what exactly Brazeau asked his hitman, René Von Richter, to do.

In one narrative weave, it is suggested by the Crown that Brazeau asked Von Richter to teach Voutour a lesson after the latter stole drugs from Brazeau. In the second narrative also presented by the Crown, it is put forth that Brazeau hired Von Richter to kill. The Crown and the defence attempted to break the standstill through negotiation which ultimately failed in mid-July. As such, both parties will return to court in late August to hash it out.

The Aylmer resident is accused of manslaughter in Aylmer’s 2014 double-murder case. In January 2014, Travis Voutour was found dead inside his Terrasse-Eardley home with his girlfriend Amanda Trottier. Her daughter was found unharmed a few days later. Brazeau, head of an active local drug trafficking network, accepted his role in Voutour’s assassination, but always rejected the blame for Trottier’s death.

The Aylmer couple was killed in their home by René Samson Von Richter and Sonia Villion. Both are serving long sentences.
