Opening Night for the Aylmer Community Theatre Company
This story begins with Peggy and Rick Henderson, long-time residents of Aylmer, who had been deeply involved in Aylmer's community theatre group. In February 2006, Peggy made a big pot of stew and Rick invited a small group of friends to join them at their home. After plenty of discussion and a little refreshment, the ACT (Aylmer Community Theatre) Company was born and baptized that evening.
A small idea over that pot of stew has turned into a very big project indeed. The energetic Company has now had over 10 successful seasons that have included comedies, talent showcases, whodunits, original mystery-murder dinner theatre and even large-scale musical theatre productions.
After a 30-year hiatus, live English theatre had indeed returned to Aylmer.
November 10, 11 and 12, ACT presented a play called Opening Night, by Norm Foster, directed by Roy Abraham and
produced by Jackie McKeown. The play was originally produced at the Piggery Theatre in North Hatley, Quebec in 1989. The play is a comedy about a couple out on their 25th anniversary and a funny look at human relationships in the setting of a night out at the theater.
The ACT troupe has been practicing and honing their skills since August and the calibre of the performance reflected this: a wonderful and entertaining evening out, supporting our local talent, with the wine and cheese refreshment proceeds going to support the D’Arcy high school band.
“Thank you to the parents of the D’Arcy band and to Symmes/D’Arcy High School staff and students for making the theatre available to us and for supporting our productions,” said Peggy Henderson.
