Response to the last Bulletin 

Just got done reading this week’s edition, and I want to start by saying how much I enjoyed your editorial. Such material is very important to us all, and also very under-reported.

I want to get the retaining wall replaced on the sides of my driveway, but I was quoted anywhere from $11,000 to $35,000 for a relatively simple, 5-day job (I got about 12 estimates).  I believe in fair pay for fair work, but given that supplies will cost around $6,000, I find $1,000 to $7,000 per day for a team of two workers to be a bit much.  So the consequence is that I’ll wait, and the wood in my current retaining wall will continue to decay.  And my house will be uglier, in the process making Aylmer a bit uglier too.  So your conclusions were bang on.

Next up, Robert Thompsett again shows himself to be quite the character.  I still haven’t digested how he thinks cars should be able to speed down residential streets and that it’s children’s responsibility to get out of his way, a rant he gave twice over the past year.  I absolutely agree that he is indeed entitled to his opinion.  But of course there’s no entitlement to speed down streets or encourage others to do so.  I suspect from the provocative and frequent nature of his letters that he’s more interested in attracting attention to himself than fighting to preserve free speech, though.
