Response to R. L. Thompsett’s letter 

“If it isn’t hurting, it isn’t working.” (March 13 letter to the editor in the Bulletin). This is a meaningless and unsupportable platitude spouted by the “prima donna”. I criticize not as a “gift” from some god but from a disagreement with platitudes disguised as reason. Upset?

For starters, I think you stretch your credibility when you imply you know what those who went to war were fighting for. Negating the many who did fight knowing full well what evil they were facing is a disgrace to the memory and intelligence of those who perished, for life and liberty. Liberty to stand against racism, sexism, inhumanity, and genocide. Upset?

“Candyfloss rights” like free health care! I grant your right of free speech to say something as heartless and thick headed as this and will use my free speech to let you know that some of us have more empathy for our fellow humans. Many realize that because a child may be born with congenital heart defects, spina bifida, or other life threatening issues, does not mean the family should be bankrupted because of their misfortune. Full disclosure; I do not accept the insertion of any god you may elect to conjure up in your cocky mind to support your argument. Upset?

Your list of disappointments with human failings and frailties just highlights your closed mind and makes me wonder what sort of perfect life you have lived. But be certain I will never be a phony trying to give you any support. Upset?

This “mystic force” of society of which you are a part, whether you like it or not, is something constructed over time, gleaned from the very individuals who make up its many parts. Since you seem determined to support “hate speech” I will give free reign to my opinion of you and your thoughts on society. I hate them. Upset?

As to Aristotle, he also believed that each individual, I assume even the lowest “scum,” has built-in patterns of development, which help it grow toward becoming a fully developed individual of its kind. So there is still a chance, even for you. Upset?

My apologies to any who think this response to harsh. I was upset.
