Response to "Putin and Trump" letter

 

I was not able to perceive, or understand, the problematic relationship “between Russia and the West” in relation to Mr Hlavina's “Multiple/Multilateral Sculpture”. Therefore, I fear his view of cooperation/corporation may be one that does not mesh with my definition. I will let that pass as an esoteric reality of the art world. Simply put, my definition of a corporation is a company, or a group of people acting as a single entity, and in the USA there is also the “legal fiction” to give a corporation the rights of a “person”.

Whatever Mr. Hlavina believes Donald Trump is proposing, it does not come from a “successful and proven leader” but rather from a con man, who bilks his subcontractors, leaves a sea of abandoned investors, and litigates continuously to achieve the bilking to the full.

I do feel that the corporate similarities between Russia and Trump's formula overlap. In the use of Chapter 11, Trump, as a corporation, unfairly, and as part of his con, keeps all his money and leaves his investors with all the debt. This is similar to Putin, yet achieved from the other side of the power structure, a “soviet style” government, Putin manhandles unruly corporations by taking all their money and throwing their owners in prison. Trump only dreams of achieving that option from the Oval Office.

As Mr Hlavina spins his propaganda to “forget the ‘practice of politics’” I can only remind him that it was not propaganda but "the practice of politics" and political will which allowed him to come to this land and call himself Canadian.

As to Trump's 21st century fast-talking dance-man performance, I can only wince at the clownish figure he presents. This clownish figure is the Steven King-style of Pennywise the Dancing Clown. The sadistic, racist, fear mongering, fascistic demagogue which Trump presents to us is as distasteful as it is dangerous.

“Knowledge and imagination” must certainly be our touchstones, and certainly not the “Obedience School” of Trump's “law and order” goose-stepping which must certainly be apologized for if it were to gain its fascist foothold. To expect Trump to move us towards corporations that honour “people and unions” is a pipe dream of the highest order. So, put the pipe down, and with clear eyes and conscience, join the rational world and move for change through unity . . .  and fairness.
