LETTER
Response: Ottawa Riverkeeper
Thanks for the opportunity to respond to the letter by Andy Black entitled Ottawa Riverkeeper, “keeping” who and where?, which implies that our organization is shying away from the “big issues”, in particular the nuclear waste storage proposal at Chalk River. Mr Black erroneously states that “governments have approved the Chalk River dump”. They haven’t. The environmental assessment is ongoing, and we remain actively involved. We are firm in our position that storing nuclear waste as proposed is unacceptable -- and have said so, in nearly a dozen media stories, since the public information session we co-organized in Gatineau last fall. We haven’t, and we won’t, “disappear” as Mr Black charges.
As for our funding, we are fully transparent about our sources of revenue (see our website), and are proud to count hundreds of local residents among our supporters. To make a donation, please visit www.ottawariverkeeper.ca/donate.
It takes a watershed to protect a river, and we certainly can’t do it alone! To celebrate Earth Week, Mr Black and all your readers are invited to join the shoreline clean-ups we are leading every day this week throughout the region.

ED, Ottawa Riverkeeper
