Response: cycling lanes on Lucerne
In response to Bob Rousselle's comments about the double bike path along Lucerne boulevard, Mr Rousselle is obviously not a cycling commuter.
First, the bike path along the river is theoretically limited to 20km/h. Any cycling commuter would travel at a higher speed, so the bike path is not for us.
Second, the bike path is not, nor will it be, plowed to allow winter travel. So the double bike paths along Lucerne will greatly benefit cyclists.
More cyclists in all seasons mean fewer cars on the road, so Mr Rousselle and others should appreciate that.
His comment about head-wind is irrelevant to the need for a better, and safer, way for all cyclists to quickly get to and from the Champlain bridge to Aylmer.
I agree that a third car lane would be great, but if I had to choose, I would pick the bike lanes.
Finally, I am a taxpayer and a cyclist. Remember that cyclists do pay taxes, so the road doesn't only belong to car and truck owners. Thanks to Mr Bégin, Aylmer will be getting more people to go to work on their bikes and out of their cars.
