Residents invited to participate in public consultation for Snow Removal Policy revision

Gatineau residents can participate in the online public consultation on the revision of the Snow Removal Policy from October 17 to November 6. Gatineau highlights that the consultation allows participants to give their opinions and propose ideas. The consultation will allow the city to assess citizens’ level of knowledge of the Snow Removal Policy, along with their concerns.
“Snow removal is an essential and priority local service for the City of Gatineau,” said Mario Aubé, spokesperson for the snow removal file and Masson-Angers councillor. “It is especially important that the population express themselves in large numbers during the online public consultation so that the teams can properly analyze the opinion of Gatineau residents and thus optimize the service. I therefore strongly encourage the entire population to express themselves and propose their ideas in the coming weeks.”

The Snow Removal Policy revision started during the summer with a formal discussion group of citizens, municipal employees and partners in June and a scientific survey of citizens in July. Throughout the review, Gatineau is focusing on levels of service, operations, equipment and workers, budget, and management of abrasives.
Gatineau will also be conducting a comparative analysis of snow removal policies in other cities to assess good practices, as well as a feasibility study to assess changes based on resources. The current Snow Removal Policy is from 2006, although Gatineau has made some changes such as adding 18 new positions, purchasing nine tractors, and adding two attendents to ensure compliance with regulations.
The revised policy is expected to be adopted by the City Council in 2023.
