Reply to Waldheim on truckers' convoy
Gary Waldheim writes that it (the protest) is not that bad!
First, I have a daughter who tries to go to class at the University of Ottawa but cannot get there and when she does she is harassed by truckers when she tries to cross the bridge. She has stopped trying. My daughter is not a teenager but the mother of two; she went back to school to get her Masters degree. She understands the fears of the women in the women’s shelter because she experienced the harassment and bullying.
Second, my husband’s family is from centretown and we still have many friends (elderly) who have had very little sleep because of all the honking! The three elderly ladies tried to confront the truckers - so they stay off Cooper Street and stop honking at night.
Third, I am affiliated with Shepherds of Good Hope; that was sheer harassment, which also involved an assault.
Perhaps Mr. and Mrs. Waldheim should go from 10PM to 2 or 3AM; then I would appreciate their reporting.
My neighbour is a professor at the University of Ottawa. He tried to get in to teach but it took him 2.5 hours to get there and longer to get back. He gave up and teaches on Zoom!
Finall, I feel any trucker from Aylmer and the Pontiac who supports this is complicit in the bullying and harassment over the past week.
Hate accomplishes nothing! Also this is more than just a few bad apples! I
This “protest” has turned into an occupation and desecration of our home! It has been reported that much of the money that has been “fueled” in by Go Fund Me has come from white supremacy and other groups in other countries!
Is this what we all want? If so, I do not think that I want to live here any more.
Mr Waldheim should talk with the refugees and immigrants and hear about the hell that they have face -- only then will you see that all those who participated in the protest/occupation are just bullies in the playground who have not got their way!
