Reply to Thompsett on the English election

 

I appreciate Mr Thompsett’s sense of humour, as in his last letter – that the Tories lost their majority because Ms May revived the party’s fox-hunting roots – but I’ve noticed he uses his humour to side-step his own unwillingness to accept that the world has moved past Margaret Thatcher’s era. Something happened in this election that was not expected. Corbyn proved a dynamic campaigner and was able to press home to voters the need for change; he brought in young voters, similar to our own last federal election. The people did not vote “populist-nationalist”!

Thompsett’s light-heartedness also obscures May’s courting of the North Ireland neanderthals as she tries to cobble together a majority coalition. She may get majority support, but for which bills?  Banning abortion, gay marriages, Muslim immigrants, even banning a free press? What exactly is Mr Thompsett asking us to laugh about?
