LETTER
Reply to the editorial “Better Candidates”
Mr. Ryan’s editorial calling for better candidates in the coming election has baffled me, as I fail to see how we could possibly get worse. Having spent four years on one rep’s waiting list to see him, I assume this representative is way too busy to speak to those he represents.
Four years ago, I did have one short appointment when this fellow was first elected. As I walked in the door, he had all the body language of a man waiting to go into the dentist’s chair. After dismissing anything I had to say, he promised, four years ago to get back to me. I am still awaiting a reply.
This representative seems deaf and blind to anything out of the ordinary or which has an unconventional line of reasoning. Not only can he not think outside the box, his mind has never reached one of the sides of the box. If it is not conventional party politics, anything that he can’t answer by reciting some mindless spiel off a press release, it is incomprehensible and irrelevant to him. The reason for this is the depressing arrogance that motivates most deputies; they see voters as stupid cattle, cows to be milked to support costly pet projects, not as taxpayers with concerns, worries or issues of their own. In short, voters are expected not to think, but to shut up and be spoken at.
After four years of “lights on, but no-one at home”, even the Bloc is beginning to look like a rosy alternative to a 100% anglophone like myself.
