Reply to Mr Woodman: all voices will be heard
As you are aware, I have organized a series of town hall meetings and regional forums across Pontiac. Pontiac residents are being consulted on a range of issues, including electoral reform. Topics include Canada Post, agriculture, affordable access to Internet, employment insurance, climate change and socio-economic development. We will organize others in 2017.
In addition to the two electoral reform consultations that I have organized in Pontiac, the Minister of Democratic Institutions, Hon. Maryam Monsef, also organized a public meeting in Gatineau on September 15. Furthermore, I have met one-on-one with every person and organization that has requested to discuss electoral reform.
As regards the timing of our electoral reform consultations, I have confirmed with Minister Monsef that all views expressed before, during and after our scheduled consultations will be taken into account. All voices will be heard and views recorded.
It bears mentioning that our previous federal government did not hold a single consultation session on any topic in the riding of Pontiac during their previous mandate. Not one. So, as you can imagine, the reaction we are getting from Pontiac residents has been nothing short of positive. Finally, they are being heard.
I hope to see you at one of these consultations and look forward to your positive contributions.
William Amos
MP (Pontiac)
