LETTER
Reply to: “I live in a flood zone, but don’t speak French”
I sympathize with your flooding situation, really. In your May 17 letter to the editor, you write that Canada is a "bilingual country"? Where have you been the past 100 years? Québec is more bilingual than the rest of the country. The proof, you still live here.
Just try booking a room in French in our nation’s capital (yes, just across the river, Ottawa) and you will quickly see your bilingual country is NOT. Now imagine trying that in Toronto, Edmonton or Vancouver (or, like you say, "as across Canada"). Order something in French in a Toronto restaurant!
Last, but not least, you say you’ve been living in Québec for the past 12 years.
Shame on you for not speaking or understanding French.
