Reply to Gary Lemieux on sidewallks
I imagine you, Mr Lemieux, reside in proximity to Lucerne Blvd. while I live along Aylmer Road. I can not comment on the upkeep of Lucerne's driving surface because I never drive there, nor do I walk there, so I have no standing to claim the city is making bad decisions as to it's maintenance. I did observe that there seem to be excellent bike paths for those who choose to traverse the Lucerne corridor from downtown Aylmer to the Champlain Bridge.
Your observation that "no one ever walks" between Rivermead and Allen points to the very fact that there were never safe accessible sidewalks in order to walk there -- but there are now, and I thank the City for providing this safe access. Your specific concern of a sidewalk between Allen and the Double Tree Hotel may be misplaced. I have no doubt Gatineau has made sidewalk access a commitment to the new development that is scheduled to be built right there. There are many more residents directly on Aylmer Road than there are on Lucerne, and those who live along the Aylmer Road corridor can now feel confident that they can traverse safely from downtown Aylmer to the Champlain Bridge without having to step into roadways. I have at times voiced my concern with The City of Gatineau's treatment of Aylmer, but the tax dollars for this sidewalk are well spent and beneficial to Aylmer constituents.
