Removing the ball park at parc des Cèdres?
Thank you for the article about the plans for parc des Cèdres. I saw that someone decided to remove the ball park and replace it with reforesting and a meandering pedestrian walkway? Unbelievable!
There is forest all around. Boucher Forest is getting so much love from people, and rightly so – it is a real treasure. But that the city claims they are updating the park to, in part, promote physical activity, but then to remove a major athletic infrastructure is mind-boggling. Honestly, I’ve even heard that another ball park in town is being rented out to Ontario leagues. That is how few spaces there are to play!! And after soccer, softball and baseball are apparently the fastest growing sports in popularity in Canada.
If the Bulletin hadn’t let people know about this plan, I don’t think many people would be going to the public consultation in April. They wouldn’t know there is a reason to go. Why does the city operate this way? They would have held a quiet consultation, let the plan pass and then ballplayers would have found out later.
I also hear there is a petition going around to help keep the ball park at parc des Cèdres. I hope many, many people sign it.
