Remarkable trees of the Gatineau Park?
Suzanne Hardy has undertaken a survey of remarkable trees in Gatineau Park. She is requesting help from outdoors-people who spend time in the park. Anyone who is aware of any remarkable tree in Gatineau Park is asked to contact Ms Hardy as soon as possible at the email address on page 14, with the best identifying data for the tree as possible. This includes photos, GPS positions and other locating descriptors.
Remarkability test
Ms Hardy developed a “remarkability test” that she has used over the years in other studies and publications (Laval, for Hydro-Quebec across the province, and most recently, the neighbourhood of Wychwood in Aylmer). “Vulnerability, rare species, picturesque appearance, colours, etc., are elements of a tree being remarkable,” noted Suzanne Hardy.
There still exist rare examples of elms and butternut, for example.
