Regional Association of West Quebecers open satellite office
On February 19, the RAWQ opened a temporary satellite office in Shawville at 111 Victoria Avenue. The head office for the RAWQ is located at 181 Rue Principal in Gatineau and was previously the only office of their non-profit organization across the Outaouias, and this makes it easier to interact within the Pontiac. “It’s our new temporary satellite office; we hope it becomes more than satellite and more than temporary in the future, but currently we have this office for about two months,” said Executive Director Linton Garner. Shawville’s own, Outreach / Event Planner Hayley Campbell, will be at this office to help those with questions on getting involved with everything the RAWQ has to offer.
The non-profit organization receives funding from other organizations and government grants. It supports the English speaking community throughout the Outaouias by means of advocacy, networking, information and programs for youths and seniors, they hold three free French courses a year to anyone who is interested and wants to register. They run a TV program called City Life on the Videotron network and online.
Cafe 349 catered the event, beverages were apple cider from Coronation Cider Mills, and wine from the Little Red Wagon Winery. (BA)
