LETTER
Reforestation of Parc Madaire
Thank you for the article in your issue of April 25, on the activities of the Deschênes Residents’ Association. We have indeed worked over the years to support our neighbourhood’s objective to better understand and protect the natural and historical heritage of the neighbourhood.
With respect to the project “Reforestation of Parc Madaire” described in your article, I wanted to highlight the lead role of the Syndicat du quartier Parc Madaire in this project. The Parc Madaire complex is a condominium of 115 row-house units managed by a Board and it is the members of the Board, in particular Jasmin Morin, who took the lead in the 2017 Reforestation project. The Syndicat has been replanting trees in their complex for a number of years following the devastation of the emerald ash borer. Deschênes Residents’ Association was pleased to work with the Syndicat on this project.
One interesting fact rediscovered in the course of the project was that the Parc Madaire complex was designed by the renowned McGill University architect Avi Friedman and is considered an innovative example of high-density, low-impact housing.
