Recap of June 12 City Council session

On June 12, City Council held its regular meeting at the Maison du citoyen a few hours after an important announcement concerning modifications to the management of the collection of residual waste materials. At the beginning of the meeting, the mayor made a brief statement regarding the city’s financial health.  In essence, the City achieved a net surplus of 6.9 million dollars last year. 

Aylmer’s four councillors recapped recent activities and presented coming events for this summer.  They were unanimous in praising the success of the Fête des voisins.  Audrey Bureau, councillor for Ward One, Aylmer, briefly reviewed the progress in rebuilding the exposition centre l’Imagier.  She also noted that festival l’Outaouais en fête would take place on June 22 to 25 at Parc des Cèdres, and that renovations would be made to the bakery, Aux Deux Frères, at 146 Principale Street. 

Lucerne councillor, Gilles Chagnon, reported that the City was applying for minor variances to allow the installation of two charging stations for electric vehicles in the Galeries Aylmer parking lot.

 

Speed limits
   
District of Deschênes councillor, Mike Duggan, noted that changes to speed limits would soon come into force in all Gatineau sectors. Specifically, he noted that the speed limit on Mountain Road, between McConnell and Aylmer Roads, would be reduced to 60 km/h. On Lucerne Boulevard, east of Fraser Road, the limit would also be reduced to 60 km/h.

Maude Marquis-Bissonnette, councillor for the Plateau, summarized the main aspects of the modifications to the management of residual waste materials and garbage pick-up. One big point was that composting would be mandatory as of July 15, 2018.

There was discussion on Phase 8 of the Connaught project in the Deschênes ward during the citizens’ question period.  The residents’ association of that community is in favour of this project which involves constructing 18 multifamily dwellings on Promenade de l’Hippodrome.  A resolution to this effect was approved unanimously by city councillors.
   
A resolution allowing the construction of a new high school (CSPO) on Fraser Road was also adopted unanimously.  (Transl: CL)
