----- Reality check required
Mr. Temchuk argues (his January letter) that Republicans are racists who just spread hate with accusations that Trump was a traitor, a Nazi, a racist, and only there to increase his fortune. A racist, when the most extensive prison reforms aimed directly at blacks came from Trump, and his economic achievement before Covid was the lowest unemployment of blacks in history?
Calling 49% of voters, deplorables, fascists, racists, xenophobes and misogynists, as Temchuk does, is definitely based on "love, harmony and compassion"! Mr. Lefebvre (however) did not condone what happened January 6, he wrote that these people (merely) needed to be heard.
Temchuk neglected the summer of riots, burnings and looting, police being killed and injured, as well as residents -- there are extremists on both sides. The damage done on January 6 pales, compared to the riots in Portland, Seattle, Denver and Tacoma.
Politics is the art of twisting reality to suit one's purpose. Both sides do it but to pretend that Trump is the only one is a big stretch. It is time for Mr. Temchuk to broaden his information network -- there’s more than CNN. He says the Republicans are the party of the rich. Where has he been? Executives of the largest corporations, plus much of Wall Street, contributed big money to Biden’s campaign.
Mr. Biden announced a "Buy American policy” -- isn’t that plagiarism of Trump? Any new strategy from Biden? Again, Biden just takes credit for everything Trump did.
Anti-Trump Canadians who couldn’t hide their disdain for four years, hopefully won’t suffer when the price of oil jumps (cancelled Keystone pipeline), nor when the U.S. reduces imports of lumber, nor when our dollar drops. The globalization train has left the station, heading straight to China, one-way. They control our pharmaceuticals and much of our natural resources. Trudeau must now beg Biden for vaccines, Keystone XL and the "Buy American" policy. We certainly backed the right horse. Time to wake-up, Canada!
