Racist letters in the Bulletin

 

I don't know why the Bulletin continues to publish these "missives" by the President of Imperatif français.  ("Missive" according to the Free Dictionary connotes "letter sent by a superior authority".)   He might argue that he is trying to advance the cause of the French language, but, in fact, he is trying to deny speakers of the other official language from obtaining their civil rights, among which are services that they pay their Quebec taxes to receive.  

Just to give you an idea of the impact his diatribes have on many of your readers, if you were to substitute "immigrants" or "refugees" for "anglophones", it would border on racism (or bigotry). I don't believe I am overstating the case.  Can you see my point?

NOTE:  We must, and do, evaluate all letters for racist and hate-mail content, in the legal sense, and while some of the letters from this source do come embarrassingly close to racism (or bigotry), and are often xenophobic, they do not cross the most basic lines. It is unfortunate that a good and important cause can be slurred by such “missives”.
