West Quebec’s Jim Shea runs for president of QCGN
Aylmer’s James Shea has announced his candidacy for president of the Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN). The election is in early June and, so far, Mr. Shea appears to be the only one running. Mr. Shea has served on QCGN’s Board for four years and is currently vice-president.
Founded in 1995, QCGN is a non-profit organization linking 48 English-language community organizations across Quebec, including the Regional Association of West Quebecers (RAWQ).
“Members with QCGN are organizations, not individuals, and the membership has grown from 38 to 48. I championed getting more organizations and I think we have been successful,” said Shea, also Chair of QCGN’s membership committee. Membership is often mandatory to receive funding from Heritage Canada, which promotes the umbrella group.
The top position is open since the current president’s second two-year term is ending. Candidates must be nominated by a regional association, such as RAWQ. Mr. Shea is RAWQ’s president and is also the Chairman of the Western Quebec School Board (WQSB).
