William Conroy and Hydroelectricity in Deschênes
Lynne Rodier is a passionate historian. She is a history teacher at a local high school and has recently completed her Masters in History. Her thesis was that of the Conroy family and their influence on businesses in Deschênes.
On May 1, Ms Rodier presented at the Aylmer Heritage Association the history of William Conroy and how he brought hydroelectricity to Deschênes in 1896, with the Deschênes’ Electric Company.
This became the Hull Electric Company that supplied electricity to streets in Hull and the villages of Aylmer and Deschênes, as well as to the Hull and Aylmer tramways.
