Public Consultations - Land Use Plan

The City of Gatineau is currently reviewing its Land Use Plan and related by-laws to ensure that they are consistent with the major orientations of the revised Gatineau Land Use and Development Plan (GOLD), which came into effect in 2015. This is a crucial step, since the resulting societal choices will shape, in a highly visible and long-term manner, the face of our city in terms of development, growth and infrastructure. The urban plan is a land management tool. 

The Land Use Plan currently under review renews the five main orientations, namely: 1) managing growth in order to increase Gatineau’s economic efficiency and competitiveness; 2) prioritizing sustainable mobility; 3) enhancing natural and cultural heritage; 4) creating complete and eco responsible living environments; and, 5) protecting people and property.     

The City has decided to take the pulse of the Gatineau population by organizing four consultation sessions. The purpose of these sessions is to enable citizens to understand the land use planning process and its application, to learn about changes to the urban plan and the impact on the development in their neighbourhood, and to express their views on the major orientations proposed. The documentation to be presented at these sessions can be consulted at gatineau.ca/consultations. Residents in each area can also submit their comments by filling out an online form by March 22 (https://fr.surveymonkey.com/r/HR8NJBV). 

Some of the questions that will be addressed include: Where will densification occur in Aylmer? Where will 10-storey buildings be permitted? Five-storey buildings? 3-storeys? Are we talking about height or storeys? Where will underground parking be mandatory? Where will coeducation be enforced? How can a framework for the future of Boucher Forest be established?

The content of the sessions will be adapted according to each sector. The consultation session for the Aylmer sector will take place on Thursday, March 12, from 6 pm to 9 pm, at the Ernest Lattion Centre (30 Court Street).  (Trans.)
