LETTER
Protest slaughterhouse cruelty
Quebecers of diverse cultural communities are mobilizing to demonstrate that animal rights is a global cause. Armed with banners, drums, and artwork, people of all ages and backgrounds unite to express their indignation at the treatment of animals in Canadian slaughterhouses. This international event is part of the growing anti-slaughter movement with four rallies happening in Canada, and over thirty more marches taking place in Europe, Australia, Argentina, Japan, Turkey, and the United States. In Montreal, Saturday, June 16, at Square St. Louis, concluding at Parc La Fontaine.
There is no suffering that we inflict on animals that we do not inflict on humans, but the difference is that the suffering we inflict on humans is seen as wrong by most decent people and it is also against the law. Not so for animals. Most of us are not only unaware of their agony in slaughterhouses, but we also actively sustain it as consumers.
