Phase 1 has begun for Pink Road expansion project
A project more than ten years in making, the long-awaited 4-lane widening of Pink Road, began on Monday, September 16th.
This fall, work will focus on laying the grounds for the heftiest phase two of the project which will extend until the end of 2020.
Deforestation around the main traffic artery, large-scale preparations and organizing the construction site will be a large area of focus, with building efforts surrounding a part of the 2.5 km multifunctional trail that will connect Gravité Street and Conservatoire Street as well as the construction of culverts for off-road sections.
No complete closure of the road is planned for this phase of the project.
Phase two
The second part of the work is set to begin in mid-January 2020.
It is during this phase that most of the widening work will take place, and the four lanes of Pink Road between Gravité Street and Boulevard des Grives will become a reality.
This part of the project should stretch throughout 2020.
Phase three
The final phase of the work will see the landscaping, surface work and street furniture aspects of the project finalized.
For the moment, the city believes that the project should be done by spring or summer 2021.
Presented to the city council in 2010, the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Quebec for the project took eight years.
Since the signing of the memorandum in 2018, the cost of the work has increased to around 10.3 million dollars, a little under 3 million dollars more than the initial estimates of 7.9 million.
All details concerning phase 2 and 3 of the project are subject to change.
