Peter Sourges - 1962-2017
Peter Sourges, Aylmer personality and the owner of Dinty’s Restaurant, passed away on August 16 at the age of 82.
Born in Dafnion near Sparti in Greece, Peter came to Canada at the age of 19. He began working in Ottawa area restaurants and after 7 years, he saved up enough money to acquire Dinty Moore’s Restaurant in 1962.
It was around that time that he re-acquainted with a childhood friend, and his future wife, Afroditi. Having grown up in the same small village, their families knew each other well. They were married in 1964 and ran the restaurant together. In 2000, Peter, Afroditi and their 3 sons embarked on a bold new project. They build a new restaurant facility and rebranded it as Dinty's Restaurant, a family favorite in Aylmer.
His impact on the Aylmer and greater Ottawa community was felt by many. He was a past president of the St George Dafnioton Society, a volunteer with the Hellenic community with the Ottawa Greek Festival. Peter and Afroditi also supported the Queensway Carleton Hospital.
Peter Sourges leaves behind his wife Afroditi and their three sons, Jim, Andre and Louis as well as 7 grandchildren: Peter, Alexia, Michael, Adam, Jane, William and Sam.
