Permitted surplus garbage bags are now available for sale
Bags permitted for excess garbage became available in service centres and eco-centres on September 4.
As of September 15, household waste collection will be limited to the 120-litre grey bin distributed by the city.
Old 180-litre bins will no longer be permitted for collection and households generating more garbage than the grey bin can hold will have to purchase the specific city bags for their surplus at a cost of $2.50 for a package of five bags.
Excess garbage should be placed in these bags, then placed on the street next to the grey bin, but not used in the grey bin. Compostable and recyclable materials, construction waste and household hazardous waste are prohibited in the garbage.
As of September 15, only the contents of the grey bin and eligible bags will be collected in the household garbage collection with a maximum of five bags per residential unit served.
These five-bag packages are also available online on the city’s website at gatineau.ca/dtritus. However, shipping costs must be added for online orders. (Trans.: BA)
