LETTER
Peace and quiet on Lucerne!
Thank you Councillor Bégin for your work to have Lucerne Blvd re-surfaced.
It has been 5 years in the making, mostly due to the NCC. The job is not finished because the inept NCC has not transferred the necessary land to Gatineau to finish the work of widening Lucerne to 3 lanes -- the same as the Champlain bridge, plus 2 bicycle paths. That is what I have been told. The Mayor might also be to blame for shifting priorities.
Question one: Isn’t it time to re-invent the NCC with a mandate in line with the 21st century?
Two: Isn’t it time to re-think bicycle paths? This is not a tiny country like Denmark where communities are relatively close to each other. Canada is a huge country that cannot in all cases adapt to Old World ideas.
Three: Can’t our politicians think further than the end of their noses, i.e. driverless vehicles, electronic highways, personal airplanes, high-speed transportation, etc.? This is coming sooner than we think. Driverless vehicles are already here.
