McConnell a concern for area residents
Sylvie Filion
On Thursday April 23, the Association of Parc Champlain Residents held its annual general meeting (AGM) at the DoubleTree by Hilton (ex Château Cartier).
Some thirty people got together to look at the past year and tackle issues that affect them. Financially, the year ended on a positive note thanks to the help of the City of Gatineau.
One of the subjects of concern for these people is McConnell Road that is becoming more and more a transit way, almost like a boulevard.
“We want McConnell Road to remain a secondary collector road,” says Darquis Gagné, member of the board of directors. He also says that there is a consensus amongst residents who do not want to see that road widened and want a decrease in the speed limit.
“We voiced our concerns to the City at the April 13 Council meeting held at the Aylmer Service Centre, but they do not seem to have been heard,” adds Ms Gagné
At the end of the AGM, residents agreed that two new stop signs were needed, one at the corner of Beaumarchais Street and the other at the corner of Des Manoirs Street and that there should be a secure pedestrian crosswalk. Members of the new board of directors are: Pierre Généreux, Michel Fontaire, Michael Groh, Isabel Murray, Denis Fortier, Carole Nehme, Darquis Gagné, Jeanne Pagnan and Antoine Chevrier.
