Owls and Raptors
April 8. Special event: the owls. A proposition of the Club des ornithologues de l’Outaouais (COO), in collaboration with Friends of Gatineau Park. A general survey of strigids species (owls), indigenous to our region.This presentation (in French) will be followed by an evening out, that very day or the next day.
Rendez-vous: 19h00 at Gatineau Park Visitor Centre, 33 Scott Road in Chelsea.Pre-registration required with the Friends of the Park, who ask for an amount of $20 from participants (up to 35 people). April 10. Raptors migration at Eardley (Pontiac, Luskville sector). Destination: at the end of Chemin Thérien in Eardley area, we’ll attempt to observe raptors in their moves, drifting along the escarpment of the Gatineau Park, such as hawks of various sizes, falcons, vultures and maybe bald eagles or even a golden eagle. It will be a good opportunity to become familiar with those species and to learn some tips for a good identification in the field. Other spring species will also occur for sure. Level: for all. Bring your equipment, lunch and outdoor chair!
Rendez-vous: 7h30 in the Galeries d’Aylmer parking lot (rue Principale), in front of Jean Coutu drugstore OR after 8h00 at Chemin Thérien end. Outing cancelled in case of rain. Your host: the very experienced Rodolphe Dubois (819-685-9159). We speak English.
