LETTER
Ottawa’s OK with radioactive dump?
Our world has many colours, and we are all aware of this, so why are our political brains capable of thinking only in white and black.
My professor of Art History (J. Brimmich) for a similar situation to ours, declared: “There is no known medicine which would cure human ignorance” (circa 1960-63). So when I read the editorial of August 9, (re the proposed radioactive dump upstream), I can hear his words as if yesterday.
And with the news of North Korea, our 'stupidity' once again is proving our inability to think beyond the 'black and white'. And it’s mostly in terms of punishing others. From the rear-view mirror of some decades, it could have been Russia, China, or Pakistan (and others) who might have been the “North Korea” of that time.
In words of the sanest newspaper, our ability to think seems minuscule, in light of the bigger issues beyond our borders of West Quebec. It is not the economy, nor the Paris Accord on limiting climate change, nor even the survival of the fittest, it is the colour of our lives, their multiple colours.
It is time to think rationally and with a forward view: Presidents Trump, Putin, Xiu -- good luck! President Khrushchev did it in the sixties, and history does repeat itself. Take the time to think this all through, not just react. I hope our own PM is getting a grip on all this.
