LETTER
LETTRE
Open letter to the residents of Aylmer
More and more tax dollars are being absorbed by the Municipality of Gatineau, yet Aylmer’s infrastructure has not been improved. With the exception of emergency repairs or roads fixed or created by housing project contractors, our roads are a disgrace and even dangerous (e.g. Vanier Rd. north of Hwy 148). Where is all this new money going?
Aylmer’s fire response team has been reduced to a skeleton staff; the fire department from Le Plateau is called in for major issues, causing delays in response times. Our police department is working in a condemned building; consequently, we have a minimum police presence.
People of Aylmer, these are just a cross section of the issues that we are facing due to a lack of municipal funding. We are talking about the safety of our families and homes. We need to put a stop to the growth of Aylmer until we at least have the infrastructure that would properly support the population we have now.
It is time that we (Aylmer) made a considerably stronger impact on the Municipal Council. We need strong representation on City Council; we now know our new councillors.
I plead with all of you to demand change. Make our demands known to our councillors through e-mail or social media as we work en masse, and “demand” results and accountability.
