LETTER
Open letter to the Prime Minister: minimum sentencing
Concerning the criminal record that Mr. Harper extended from 5 years to 10 years, do you realize what he did? Those people are stuck working for minimum wage and often abused by the employers. They can’t take courses to better their situation. Many were accused of simply selling marijuana. What do you think happens when they try to live on a minimum wage? They go back to their old tricks or welfare. They can’t even travel for 10 years! The worst I’ve heard, they cannot even get insurance on their belongings. And to clean their records, the price is enormous. Where can they get the money for this procedure?
They didn’t commit murder and many were simply charged for speeding or driving under the influence or personal possession of cocaine when they were young. Prisoners charged with murder get more freedom. They benefit from special
rehabilitation programs and often they do not complete a 10-year sentence.
Mr. Trudeau, we beg you to please review this file!
