LETTER
Open letter to Mr Perreault on the medical school
M Perreault should welcome the decision to invest in a Faculty of Medicine for the Outaouais. A new educational institution will bring jobs and economic growth as well as adding to the perception of the Outaouais as a dynamic and economically vibrant region of Quebec. This facility could be the centre of a cluster of medical training and research facilities, public and private.
If the gentleman wishes to call Outaouais Francophones to action he should ask them to agitate for an expansion of the idea. Our region has one of the highest levels of bilingualism in Canada. Why not pressure the government to add a French-language faculty to operate side-by-side with the English one? Students could choose to receive training in both languages, leading to an increase in bilingual medical professionals. Further investment could set up bilingual training for other medical occupations. We could have the double bonus of economic growth from all the investment and improved medical care for our area.
Don't fight the investment, sir, welcome it with open arms.
Dale Hovdebo,
Aylmer
