LETTER
Open letter reply to Mr Woodman
After a summer of listening to expert witnesses from Canada and around the world, Parliament’s all-party committee on electoral reform (ERRE) is on a national tour to hear from Canadians. They are coming to Montreal, closest, but there are ample means for us here to listen, read, and make our comments, electronically. The committee will deliver a recommendation for a new (or not) electoral system on December 1st, 2016 - legislation will be developed and presented back to the House of Commons in May 2017.
All this hardly sounds like a sham, Mr Woodman. It is surprising that you appear to reject even looking at the situation, the real problems our voting system generates, and the alternatives tested elsewhere and available to us. That doesn’t sound like an MP’s proper attitude.
Pontiac riding voters have the same opportunity to participate as other Canadians. We may (or may not) be losing an opportunity for us to get together locally with our MP, as you claim, due to the House’s deadline, but this is hardly the only way to participate. And it doesn’t make the process “a sham”, as you claim.
Mr Woodman, please, come up with some solutions, instead of your constant carping. Pontiac has plenty of problems, we don’t need non-stop complaining.
