On “communism”

Mr Ryan’s editorial (on the monument to communism’s victims) got him a few angry replies.  I fully agree with Mr Lefebvre and Mr Van Kessel that communism, in the form that we have known in the last century, did not bring much good.  But that is where our common views stop.  For one thing they were way off the mark on what Mr Ryan was actually saying.  It was as if they picked up a few words, misjudged what the editorial was all about, and got carried away.  Yes, I don't think much of the legacy of communism, but, hopefully, not to the point of being blinded.  Certainly not to use it as a justification for other forms of manipulation and exploitation.
