There were many skeptics before the project took off, but due to its success, the Old Aylmer Farmer’s Market will return next spring. “We were there ten Sundays. It went very well. We received a warm welcome from residents. We are very satisfied as were the twenty or so merchants,” said Kristine Landry, one of two organizers. “Residents were very happy and they were saying how it was about time.”
The market was such a success it will potentially double in size next year. “There are strong possibilities it will grow in size next spring allowing us to have space for forty merchants. All the merchants who were there last year signalled their interest to return next year,” said Landry.
The market will set up at the same location as last year and will likely have more animation. “We will try to have music every weekend. We had some entertainment last year, but we want some every weekend next year,” she explained.
Unlike this past season, merchants will set up their kiosks every Sunday between May and September. Last year, the market started in mid-July and wrapped up at the end of September. The market was only absent during the Yesteryear's Fest. “Next year we’re looking to integrate the market with the festival,” said Landry. A meeting to discuss the market is scheduled in the new year.
