Old Aylmer aglow with Christmas Market and a twist on traditional Santa Claus Parade

Christmas in Old Aylmer returned on November 27 and 28, with the Santa Claus parade and the first weekend of the Christmas Market.

Last year, because of COVID-19, there was no Santa Claus parade. This year, however, it did take place, but in a much different format. On Saturday between 4:30 pm and 8 pm, floats were parked along rue Principale and spectators who showed proof of vaccination lined up along the sidewalk to admire them.

Residents who missed the festivities last weekend will still be able to experience the Christmas market on December 3, 4 and 5, this year featuring a record number of vendors and exhibitors. The outdoor Christmas Market, organized by the Corporation du Défilé du Père Noël de Gatineau, is located at La Basoche Cultural Centre, at 120 rue Principale.
Participants can look forward to a festive atmosphere and the presence of more than 35 local producers, unique artisans and several food trucks. The event is free and will not require proof of vaccination, according to the safety measures that are in place.
“My family and I are very pleased with the return of the Christmas events in Vieux-Aylmer this year and I invite all of Gatineau’s citizens to come and visit our beautiful area,” said Steven Boivin, Councillor for the Aylmer district.
-Parking and Road closures

For the Christmas Market, vehicle traffic is prohibited on rue Broad and rue Park, both between rue Principale and rue du Patrimoine. Residents visiting the market are encouraged to park at the Frank Robinson and Isabelle & Paul Duchesnay arenas located at 92 rue de Patrimoine.
