Nuit Blanche Ottawa+Gatineau
Arts to take over the National Capital Region
Byline
Again this year Gatineau opted to participate in the anticipated and far-reaching event Nuit Blanche Ottawa+Gatineau on September 19. Nuit Blanche’s fourth edition will feature over 70 arts projects across Gatineau and in several Ottawa neighbourhoods.
The city will present a program on Laval Street featuring live folk music and a rap battle. Graffiti artists will also be on site to add a little colour to downtown Hull. Visitors will also be able to grab a shuttle over to AXENÉO7 to see a number of hosted artistic projects on site.
Nuit Blanche is described as a temporary space for re-imagining the cityscape as a massive urban playground, while celebrating and investing in cultural and economic growth within the region. The event, now in its fourth year, is built through partnerships and community involvement.
The concept of Nuit Blanche began in Paris in 2002 and has since spread across the world in many large cities, including Canada Nation's Capital. During the evening, organizers call upon different neighbourhoods to participate in the festivities by reflecting a theme and this year’s theme is HYPE & FRÉNÉSIE.
The organizing committee asked the artists, hosts and partners to tap into the bold and creative behaviour of the night-time and share that citizenship. They will test what can be achieved within the time-based landscape of the night. They will take festivalgoers on metaphorical journeys by creatively and collectively influencing peaks in the night and by daring them to ride the HYPE cycle into the morning. This event incorporates performance, new media interactive projects, live-music, graffiti artists, video installations and projections, and many more inter-disciplinary art practices.
