COVID-19 update
No deaths, 109 cases in Outaouais as of April 6
The number of COVID-19 cases in the Outaouais has risen to 109, with most of them in urban areas, say health authorities April 6. According to the CISSSO (the Centre intégré de santé et des services sociaux de l’Outaouais) website, the city of Gatineau has 88 confirmed cases so far. Confirmed cases have risen to 10 in MRC Papineau, seven in MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais and five or fewer in both MRC Pontiac and MRC Vallée-de-la-Gatineau. Out of all those infected, nine are CISSSO health care employees.
No deaths associated with the virus in the region have been confirmed. Four people have been hospitalized and no one in the region has been sent to intensive care yet. The virus has also seen an outbreak in one of CISSSO’s long-term care facilities. CISSSO hasn’t said where the infected people live, for “reasons of confidentiality, ” say authorities.
Quebec Premier François Legault said that the number of COVID-19-related deaths in the province has reached 121, marking a one-day jump of 27, during a press conference on April 6. He noted that the province has 8,580 confirmed cases, marking a one-day augmentation of 636. The number of Quebecers who have been hospitalized has reached 533 – eight more than the previous day. In intensive care, the number stands at 64, which marks a rise of 10.
Legault said that, judging by the numbers of hospitalizations and deaths compared to the number of confirmed cases, things are going relatively well. “If we have a few days like these, we’ll be able to say that we’re approaching the summit, that we’re approaching normal life,” he said, adding that normal life is still far away and that people need to follow public health guidelines to hopefully expediate the waiting process. According to a press release issued by CISSSO on April 2, CISSSO has closed its screening clinic located on 135 boulevard Saint-Raymond, in Hull, and have opened a new COVID-19 analysis clinic located at 104 rue du Barry, in Gatineau.
An ongoing review of screening prioritization by the Quebec government is aimed to better serve the population during the pandemic. The clinic has the capacity to serve 144 people per day, running from 8 am to 8 pm.
People with COVID-19 symptoms are urged to call the Quebec Service designated phone line – 1-877-644-4545 or 1-819-644-4545 – to schedule an appointment for a screening test.
