New study on Aylmer transit to be released

 

September 19, 2017 – Aylmer sector citizens are anxious to read the conclusions of a study mandated by the Société de transport de l’Outaouais (STO) to look into an efficient public transit system in Gatineau’s west end. Those who attended the September 21, 2016 forum led by Ms Sandrine Poteau, project lead on STO strategies and development, will recall that the results of this study were to be made public at the beginning of 2017.

STO spokesperson Céline Gauthier explains that the study has not been abandoned. The results of the study on the needs and solutions to offer a structuring public transit system will be released in the next few weeks. The exact date is not known at this time.

Citizens will soon have the opportunity to read the conclusions of the Roche-GENIVAR consortium, mandated by the STO, which will focus on the medium- and long-term needs and potential solutions. The conclusions will include a summary of the citizen approach put forth by Gatineau around this issue: forum, in-person information session and online consultation. The report will be available on the STO website.

The results of the study are quite timely as the issue was raised at the last council meeting in Aylmer; two citizens, Mr Lerhe-Thomas and Ms Planchon, had questions about the transit system. Mayor Pedneaud-Jobin, speaking for all council members, recognized that everyone was well aware of this problematic, but he didn’t want to answer since this seems to be an issue that will come up during the upcoming municipal election campaign. He rather invited citizens to come with their questions to the candidate debate that will be held in Aylmer on October 12.
