Centre d’Exposition L’Imagier
New photography exhibit coming to Aylmer
Following up on its first public exhibit in over a year, the Centre d’Exposition L’Imagier is preparing to put on another exhibit showcasing landscape photography inside the gallery this September. In August, featured a first show in Augmented Reality format along rue Principale According to a press release issued by the gallery on August 18, the exhibit will showcase the work of Montreal-based visual artist Aislinn Leggett.
Titled Présent aujourd’hui – peut-être absent demain – (What You See Will Not Be Here Tomorrow), the exhibit will feature a special opening event inside the gallery - located 9 rue Front - on September 4 at 6 pm. Using imagery captured with a large format 4x5 film camera, the artist intends to demonstrate the particularities of Outaouais’ landscape through still photographs and videos and to delve into memories of her childhood by creating ephemeral sculptures with objects that belonged to her grandmother.
Known to explore notions of femininity, memories and archives through her art, she uses this exhibit as a medium to contemplate her relationship with the rest of the world, the future of nature, people’s connection to their environment, and humanity’s abusive use of land and its ignorance regarding the fragility of natural resources.
Originally from Namur - a town in Petite-Nation – Legget says her home region’s rural landscape is an important source of her artistic inspiration and creative identity. “These landscapes are the background of this work,” Legget said in a press release issued on the same date as the aforementioned one. “I am grateful to have re-experienced these landscapes that have for the most part been left untouched,” she added. Legget was selected to take on the project last year with the mission of representing the Outaouais’ landscape through artistic photography.
Stating that the exposition will be displayed until November 28, L’Imagier’s Director Leonore-Namkha Beschi told the Aylmer Bulletin that the exposition will mark the official reopening of the gallery to the public since being closed for a long time due to Covid-19.
“Our team is very excited to reconnect in person with the local community and to see people inside L’Imagier,” Beschi said, encouraging people to come out in droves.

Beschi also reminded that another exposition titled Tout-Terrain : Régale – Regal is accessible to the public in Augmented Reality (AR) format by using a mobile app called Hidelight – created by local artist Scott Sharp – at several spots along rue Principale until October 24.
