New heated bus shelter planned for Aylmer
STO users waiting for the bus at the Galeries Aylmer will be able to stay warm(er) during the colder months. Once the new SAQ is complete, the STO will start building a new heated bus shelter with appropriate lighting in front of the liquor store. The SAQ’s expected delivery date is late June.
“The shelter will be of standard size. We already have some on the Rapibus corridor and we have one at the Parc-o-bus des Allumettières in Aylmer,” said Céline Gauthier, STO spokesperson. “It’s certainly a plus for the user.”
To be located on the north side of Aylmer Road, the shelter will work with an on-demand radiant heating system. Only when the temperature drops below the freezing point will it be possible for the user to activate the heating system by pressing a button. The shelter will cost $110,500 and will be subsidised at 75% by the MTQ. With the overhaul of Aylmer’s transit network to be centred at the Galeries Aylmer, planners estimate the shelter will be widely used.
