New garbage rules
I applaud the City for an attempt at establishing a new Garbage Pickup policy. However...
For starters, the policy is geared to contractors and entrepreneurs so they can make money. Not very transparent, since 311 calls literally lead to them as the viable options. Not everyone can afford a $500 per month garbage bin, to pay a general contractor to renovate, or own a truck. Or know someone who owns a truck.
I have gone to the Ecocentre in the past. It’s great – when you don’t have to wait 2 hours to get in, plus waiting to actually dump your materials, plus the 25-minute drive to get there and 25 minutes back. Now imagine that there will be at least a 75% usage increase for the Ecocentre. It won’t be a 2-hour wait. Will it be a 3-, 4- and 5-hour wait? Most of us only have weekends to go to the Ecocentre and spending 3 or 4 hours in line to get in – if you don’t get fed up with waiting and leave, or just don’t get in – is not my idea of efficiency. The City does not have the people to support the increase in usage at the Ecocentre. Their hours are much too short, as well, on weekends.
The new rules basically say, bring your garbage (if you can) to the Ecocentre and give up your Saturday or your Sunday, or both, if you could not get in on Saturday – or have your house look like a dump. But your municipal taxes will not go down if you actually use the centre. Does the city think this is a family outing?
Will they open an Ecocentre in Aylmer?
How about incineration? Biomass?
