New flags on lamp posts showcase Aylmer’s heritage

The flags were installed on rue Principale to highlight Old Aylmer heritage and to visually enhance the area. The flags depict illustrations of heritage buildings from the area. This project was proposed by former Aylmer District Councillor Audrey Bureau and was accepted in the Gatineau Municipal City Council meeting in April of this year. The last flags were designed and installed under APICA leadership in 2014.
The new flags were created by artist Alexandra Nash, a resident of Old Aylmer. The selection of the heritage buildings illustrated on the flags were selected during a tour of rue Principale by the artist and the Vice-President of the Aylmer Heritage Association.
The total cost of the project is $25,000 which was taken from the Investment Plan – Development Project Component 2015-2018. The installation and printing of the flags was carried out by Optima, a local large scale digital printing company.
