New duties for Pontiac’s MNA
Pontiac MNA André Fortin will be adding a new title to his business card. On February 3, Premier Philippe Couillard, appointed the Pontiac MNA as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Finance Minister.
“I thank the Prime Minister for his confidence in me. The vision of a prosperous economy based on healthy management of public finances is what the Finance Minister, Carlos Leitao, has put forward as the heart of our government action. I will be glad to collaborate with him towards Quebec’s economic success,” remarked Mr. Fortin.
Mr. Fortin will likely be more visible at the Canal de l’Assemblée (TV) as the parliamentary Assistant may by asked to answer questions addressed to the Minister during the National Assembly’s question period.
The parliamentary assistant can also manage certain files and represent the Minister in different activities, but he cannot replace the minister during a debate or at an end of session.
A pay increase goes with this new position. Each parliamentary assistant receives an allowance equal to 20% of an MNA’s annual salary.
