Local economic growth
New businesses favour Aylmer
Laurent Robillard-Cardinal
Aylmer’s local economy continues to grow. After a slow winter start, several businesses are setting up shop.
First, the large vacant space near Marché Laflamme has found a new tenant -- a new pharmacy which will open this spring. This business will add commercial traffic on Old Aylmer’s rue Principale. L’école d’art Salamandre moved to 112 rue Principale and opened its doors in mid-January. The bilingual art school for children and adults employs one full-time person and will add another in 2015.
More good economic news includes plans for Aylmer’s farmers’ market to roughly double in size this spring, and on Belmont Street, a restaurateur is opening a Vietnamese Pho soup eatery in the strip mall. Chorizo et Chèvre noire’s 150 rue Principale location may see a fish market replace the closed deli shop.
Sol Natural Foods, a locally-owned business established forty years ago, is expanding. The ground-breaking ceremony was January 23.
