New Aylmer scholarship: financing goal underway
Jocelyn Gara and Lillian Beaudoin
The Aylmer Circle of Friends thanked Ann Neumann and the Beaux Rêves / Sweet Dreams Quilters at their March 15 dinner. The group donated a handmade original quilt that helped raise over $1,300 towards a $10,000 Scholarship Award to be shared with five local students. Over $5,000 has been raised so far.
Jocelyn Gara, the designer of the "Spring Fling" quilt, pulled the winning ticket at the Aylmer Legion, on March 15. Joanne Zahaby, better known as JZ, went home with the unique quilt.
Rose Regimbald and Elizabeth Couture worked hard for this successful fundraising event.
“The elegance of the table settings, the aroma and taste explosion of the Beef Bourguignon, the service and the jewellry display were awesome!” said one attendee. Beaux Rêves / Sweet Dreams Quilters was founded in 2008. This is a group of women who are passionate about quilting. They get together every Wednesday from September to May at the Belmont Community Centre.
They make quilts for those in our community who are ill, suffering from cancer or diabetes, who go for treatment and who could benefit from a “comfort “quilt.
They also make and donate quilts and other items for various groups such as l’Âge d’Or, the Civitan Club, Meals on Wheels, Centre Renaissance and Circle of Friends to help them with their fundraising efforts.
On May 17, from 10 until 12, the group will host an ‘open house’ where this year`s quilts will be displayed. For more
