LETTER
NDP does its soul-searching
The letter-writer (March 30) presented the real situation of the NDP – first, being the champion for change, but receiving a negligible vote. The fifteen dollars minimum wage made some sense; I applauded, but it was not something to create excitement. It was for a narrow spectrum of voters. Pharmacare, if joined with Dentalcare and Healthcare (all national), could have sparked some votes in their favour.
The NDP had a lot to offer, at minimum expense; if they had only realized that this election was about
people, not about outmaneuvering other parties.
There was a small comment of Mr Mulcair’s which marked the descent of the NDP. Mr Mulcair showed he was fighting for his own life, when he said, “He (Mr. Harper) told me that I could be deported from Canada under C-51.” (Mr. Harper liked such threats: re President Putin, Senator Duffy...)
It was not the socialist label to be afraid of. Just look to the USA and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders - a socialist, and in the USA! This problem of the NDP is their problem to solve. We have a new direction in Canada, I hope.
